Pavel Rodríguez Guillen (Purépecha)
Pavel Rodríguez Guillen (Purépecha) directs documentaries and short fictions about Purépecha history and traditions. Hidalgo Municipio con Historia, which he co-directed with Tomás Pérez and Gildardo Vega, won the Best Michoacan Documentary Award at the 2004 Morelia International Film Festival. His video Tarhiata Tsakapancha/El Viento en la región de las piedras won special mention for its reconstruction of historical memory at the 1999 Festival Americano de Cine y Video de los Pueblos Indígenas in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Rodríguez trained in video production at the Centro de Video Indígena Michoacán and in workshops in Michoacán coordinated by the Centro de Entrenamiento de Televisión Educativa. He has participated in video production workshops at the Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City. Rodríguez received a history BA at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. He was born in Pátzcuaro and grew up in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán. Rodríguez lives in Morelia, Michoacán.
