Melanie JacksonMelanie Jackson (Métis/Saulteaux) is a producer and editor of animations and documentaries for Dark Thunder Productions, a company she co-founded with director Dennis Jackson. Their films have won awards at the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival, Ekopsi Namew: At the Time of the Sturgeon in 2005 and Christmas at Wapos Bay in 2002. Wapos Bay: There is No "I" in Hockey was broadcast in 2005 throughout Canada on APTN. In 2005, Jackson was one of six Native producers from Canada chosen to participate in NSI Storytellers, a program of the National Screen Institute and NBC Universal designed to support Canadian First Nations/New Zealand Maori co-productions. She participated in the 2004 Aboriginal Writing for Series Television program at the Banff Centre of the Arts in Alberta. In 1999, Jackson was one of 12 recipients of the Cancom Ross Charles Award, to participate in television screenwriting and production workshops at the Banff Centre. She was raised in southern Saskatchewan and lives in Saskatoon.
