Brian Francis (Mi'kmaq) is the producer of the Aboriginal Public Television Network series "Eastern Tide," which he directs with Sam Grana. The documentary series explores many aspects of contemporary Mi'kmaq life in New Brunswick and Maine, from specials on notable individuals and traditional arts to expositions of political and social issues, such as fishing rights or the impact of boarding school. Francis has also produced the albums of prominent Native musicians, including his brother's group, Hubert Francis and Eagle Feather. Francis lives in Big Cove, New Brunswick.

"I decided to become a filmmaker because I saw a need to provide an avenue for elders to express themselves. We come from a small, rural area and I wanted to give voice to the elders' struggles especially in the key area of treaty rights. Our people wanted to express themselves and I thought television was an ideal and powerful medium."
