Lena CarrFilmmaker and playwright Lena Carr (Navajo) lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her work has been funded by grants from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting and Native American Public Telecommunications. In 1996 Carr won the Outstanding Historical Program Emmy Award for her documentary War Code: Navajo, produced by National Geographic. Carr is fluent in the Navajo language. Her films have portrayed the significance of cultural traditions for contemporary Navajo, especially young people. She received an MA in Psychology at the University of New Mexico. Carr grew up on the Navajo Reservation-near Steamboat, Arizona-and in Morenci, Arizona.

"I saw my first movies when I was very young and it was just something that was very fascinating to me. My main interest at the time was to be an actress but eventually I felt the power of motion picture making was in back of the camera, not in front of the camera. I decided to make my voice known, through creating motion pictures about our people. I think there is really no other way to get our stories, our thoughts, and our purposes to a young generation."
