Director, actor and playwright Evan Adams
(Coast Salish) is internationally known for his role
as Thomas Builds-the-Fire in the film Smoke Signals. Klah
Ah Men, a documentary he co-directed with Jan Padgett, premiered
at the Native American Film and Video Festival in 2003. His playwrighting
credits include Son of Raven, Dirty Dog River, Snapshots,
and Stonefaces. Adams is also a practicing physician, working
in the field of public health. He graduated from the University
of Calgary, and served his medical residency in Aboriginal Medicine.
Adams was the first president of the Healing Our Spirit BC First
Nations AIDS Society. An accomplished traditional dancer and weaver,
he is a member of the Sliammon First Nation and was raised near
Powell River, British Columbia.

That's what my work is….I'd like to think that my work is
as an intellectual and to make social commentary about the state
of Indian people and culture today….maybe it's not as life
changing as my other work as a physician, but I still take it
seriously."
