Bruno Varela

Bruno VarelaBruno Varela is an independent producer and director, and a founder of the media organization Arcano Catorce, based in Oaxaca City, Mexico. He recently collaborated with the media organization Yoochel Kaaj to organize the festival Geografías Suaves and as a segment editor for Yoochel Kaaj's series Turix/Dragonfly. Varela coordinates Mirada Biónica, a series of annual youth media training workshops in Oaxaca. His training and production activities emphasize experimental narratives and the use of low-cost audiovisual technologies. Varela started working with indigenous communities in 1994 at the Centro Nacional de Video in Oaxaca, and worked for four years in video production and training in Bolivia. Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Varela graduated from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana with a degree in social communication.
