Karané Txicão

August 2008

Karané Txicão (Ikpeng) received his training in videography and editing through the Video in the Villages program, which facilitates video production within indigenous Brazilian communities. In 2007 he co-directed with Mari Corrêa, Pïrinop, My First Contact, a feature-length version of an earlier Video in the Villages project. The new film has screened and won awards at numerous festivals on three continents. Marangnotxíngmo Mïrang: From the Ikpeng Children to the World, produced with Kumaré Txicão and Natuyu Yuwipo Txicão, was awarded Best Documentary at both the 2002 Premio Anaconda Festival and the 2004 National Geographic All Roads Festival. Txicão lives in the Ikpeng area of the Xingú Park in Mato Grosso, Brazil.
