Jeremy Torrie

August 2004

Jeremy Torrie Jeremy Torrie (Ojibwe) works as a director and producer for Canadian television. He is the executive producer of Cool Jobs, a youth series broadcast on APTN, currently in its third season, and other television productions. In 2004 Torrie participated in the Canadian National Screen Institute's Aboriginal Cultural Trade Initiative, which brought ten First Nations producers to New Zealand and Australia to network with film industry representatives and other indigenous producers. Torrie runs a full-service broadcast equipment and post-production facility in Winnipeg. He was raised in Kenora, Ontario, near the Lake of the Woods.

"Television is the new oral tradition, the new vehicle with which we can tell our stories. There's a lot of pride that people have in being able to have their stories, their communities being shared with other peoples, and being able to say, look, that's us. That helps in this whole process of healing the effects of 500 years of colonization and assimilation."
