Artist and filmmaker Travis Shilling (Ojibwe) is best known as a landscape and portrait painter. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and Europe and is in the collection of the Orillia Museum of Art in Ontario. His first film, Bear Tung, which features actor Gary Farmer, is having its U.S. premiere at the 2011 Native American Film + Video Festival.
Shilling also has a long-standing interest in the theater and is founder of the Moonshine Theater Company in Orillia, for which he writes, produces, and directs. He attended the Toronto School of Art and the Dundas Valley School of Art, but is largely self-taught. Shilling lives in the territory of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation in Ontario, where he was born and raised, and paints in the studio used by his father, noted First Nations artist Arthur Shilling.
