Salley Riley

October 2005

Salley RileySally Riley (Wiradjuri) is the manager of the Indigenous Unit of the Australian Film Commission, which funds new productions by Aboriginal directors, primarily short films and television series. Riley is an advocate for Aboriginal self-representation in the Australian film industry and policies which support the growth of indigenous television programming and media collections. She has directed three short films, including Confessions of a Head Hunter, winner of Best Short Fiction Film at the 2000 Australian Film Institute Awards. Riley is a former writer-in-residence at Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) Television in Alice Springs, and has worked as a director for the Melbourne Theatre Company and Urban Theatre Projects. She is a member of Indigenous Screen Australia and serves on the board of the All Roads Film Project of National Geographic. Riley was on the advisory board of First Nations\First Features, a world indigenous film showcase presented in 2005. She lives in Sydney, Australia.
