Radio journalist and producer Elías Paillán Conoepan (Mapuche) currently works with the non-governmental organization Observatory for Indigenous Rights (ODPI) in Temuco, Chile. Paillán belongs to Jvken Mapu, the cultural and activist organization that produces the Mapuche radio program Wixage Anai, which has been broadcast since 1993 in Spanish and Mapudungun to audiences in Chile and beyond. The group was featured in a documentary about the radio program, Wixage Anai/Awake and Rising (d. Anthony Rauld) that won a Special Mention at the 2006 CLACPI/Indigenous Peoples´ Film and Video Festival in Oaxaca, Mexico. Paillan is a specialist in Mapuche language, culture, law, history and the current situation of the Mapuche people.
