Derek Miller

August 2004

Musician Derek Miller (Mohawk) grew up on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. He leads the rock group Derek Miller as song-writer, lead vocalist and guitarist, joined by bassist Ken Hoover and drummer Sean Kilbride. Since his first album Sketches, for which he received Best Male Artist at the 1999 Aboriginal Music Awards, Miller has received serious recognition for his work. His album Music is the Medicine, which he co-produced, won several awards, including Aboriginal Recording of the Year at the 2003 Juno Awards. Miller co-directed the music video for Music is the Medicine's title track, winning Best Music Video at the 2003 ImagineNATIVE Film Festival. He also produced award-winning albums for Chester Knight and Keith Secola.
