Actress, writer and emerging filmmaker Princess Lucaj (Gwich'in Athabascan) was selected for Sundance Institute's Screenwriting Lab, Director’s Lab and Native American and Indigenous Initiative in 1999. In addition, she has also been a PEN Emerging Voices/Rosenthal Fellow, where she had the honor of being mentored by writer and filmmaker Sherman Alexie. Lucaj attended George Washington University where she received her BA in International Relations in 1996.
Lucaj has been involved with the performing arts since childhood. She recently played a role in the feature film Uncross the Stars. Also she has played lead roles in the feature film Ghost Town and in Pow Wow Dreams, a short film she wrote and directed, which was produced through InterTribal Entertainment’s Creative Spirit Script-to-Screen competition. She has also co-starred as ÔSara' in the CBS/Paramount pilot Jericho.
In 1997 Lucaj was an NMAI program intern at the Film and Video Center in New York. She has worked with Native youth as a mentor and workshop leader in Los Angeles with Native Voices at the Autry, WriteGirl, and in Alaska with the Alaska Federation of Natives Elders and Youth Conference, Tanana Chiefs Conference, and Outward Bound.
