Mariano Estrada Aguilar

Mariano Estrada AguilarMariano Estrada Aguilar (Tzeltal) produces documentary videos with Comité de Defensa para la Libertad Indígena (CDLI), an organization that supports indigenous rights in Chiapas, Mexico. His video, Rostro de la Historia Indígena/Profile of Indigenous History, won Best Documentary at the Geografías Suaves festival in Mexico in 2004. His work was screened in the 7th Festival Americano de Cine y Video de Pueblos Indígenas in 2004 in Santiago, Chile, and in the 2003 NMAI national tour Video México Indígena/Video Native Mexico. Estrada received a National Video Resources Media Arts Fellowship in 2002 and was certified in 2000 in Visual Anthropology by the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas. Estrada lives in San Manuel, the indigenous community in Chiapas where he was born.
