Mary Code

Mary CodeMary Code (Sayisi Dene) is a filmmaker from Whitehorse, Yukon, with a special interest in the preservation of Native culture, language, and stories. She has worked on a CBC radio show broadcast in Dene and has recently been recording traditional stories in the language with her husband Allan Code. In 1990 the Codes produced and directed their first film, Nuhoniyeh: Our Story, a history of the Sayisi Dene people, that won the Gemini Award for excellence in television programming. Code's 2007 work Aydaygooay is an animated retelling of a Sayisi Dene myth first told to the filmmaker by her father.
