Ginew Benton

December 2006

Ginew BentonGinew Benton (Ojibwe) is a 2007 Sundance Institute - Ford Foundation Film Fellow for his short film project Looking Glass. In 2006, he participated in the Fox American Indian Summer Insitute at University of California - Los Angeles, directing the short video Cry for Help. He has directed several other shorts, including Monotony, The Hatrix, and Crossroads. A musician, Benton has recorded the album "For A Lifetime" with his powwow drum group The Boyz, and is a former member of the Mystic River Singers. He is also a competitive grass dancer. Benton received a BA in Theater and Multimedia Arts from State University of New York - Stony Brook. He was born in Manitoba, and raised in the Shinnecock Nation on Long Island, New York.
