Totem: The Return of the G'psgolox Pole
(2003, 70 min.) CANADA
Director: Gil Cardinal (Métis)
The Haisla people of northwestern British Columbia undertook
the return of their G'psgolox pole with the assistance of Ecotrust
Canada. The pole, which disappeared from Haisla lands in 1929,
had been placed in a Stockholm national museum. The film raises
questions about the ownership of Native American objects and the
relationship between Native communities and museums.
