For six weeks in 2008, Colombia’s popular movement, led by indigenous organizations, carried out an unprecedented mobilization to protest the government’s economic and military/security policies and ongoing violations of the rights of indigenous people. The Minga Popular marked the beginning of a nationwide movement to bring change to Colombian society through coordinated, nonviolent action.
