"Last Yoik in Sámi Forests?"

"Last Yoik in Sámi Forests?"Last Yoik in Sámi Forests?
(2007, 60 min.) FINLAND
Director: Hannu Hyvönen.
In Sámi and Finnish with English subtitles.

The deforestation of the last remaining wilderness in Finland threatens the survival of the Sámi reindeer herds. This documentary, created for the United Nations, brings to light the impact of logging on the old-growth forests that produce lichen, the main food source for grazing reindeer. In 2005, Sámi reindeer herders joined with Greenpeace to establish the Forest Rescue Station in Inari, Finland, but their international campaign against the multinational Finnish logging company Stora Enso was unsuccessful, and the deforestation continues.
