"Finding Our Talk: Australia"

"Finding Our Talk: Australia"Finding Our Talk: Australia
(2009, 24 min.) CANADA
Director: Paul M. Rickard (Cree)

In the last two hundred years, Australia has suffered a rapid loss of language—about 250 Aboriginal languages existed before colonization; now only about 20 are in constant use. Today communities are reviving and maintaining their languages with the assistance of linguists, interpreters and translators. This documentary features the Guymbaynggirr who are working to revive a near-extinct language and the people living in Alice Springs, whose vibrant languages learned at home are struggling to survive government policies and cultural prejudices.
