"Eallonissonat/Herdswoman"

"Eallonissonat/Herdswoman"Eallonissonat/Herdswoman
(2008, 58 min.) SWEDEN
Director: Kine Boman
Cinematographer: Hans-Olof Utsi (Sámi)
In Sámi and Swedish with English subtitles.

The lives of the women reindeer herders featured in this film reflect the changes occurring in Sámi life over three generations. When a court case questions their ancient rights to the reindeers' pasture, their life as reindeer keepers is at risk. This film celebrates the traditional Sámi traditional way of life and examines the difficulties of maintaining it in the context of contemporary pressures on indigenous people's rights to land and water.
