Atanarjuat is the first Native-language feature film to be written,
directed and acted by the Inuit. An action thriller set in pre-contact
Igloolik in what is now Arctic Canada, the film unfolds as a life-threatening
struggle between powerful natural and supernatural characters.


Awards
Winner of the Camera d'Or Best First Feature Award at
the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, the Claude Jutra Award 2002 and
five Genie Awards---Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay,
Best Original Score and Best Editing.
