"The Great American Footrace"

The Great American Footrace
(2002, 57 min.) US
Director: Dan Bigbee, Jr. (Comanche)
Producer: Lily Shangreaux (Lakota)
Produced in association with Native American Public Telecommunications.

A milestone moment in Native American running is brought to life. Against all odds, a grueling 1928 race from Los Angeles to New York was won by Andy Payne, a Oklahoma Cherokee farmboy who entered because, "I just thought I could do it."
