Join us in a program featuring the work of director Beck Cole (Luritja/Warrumunga), one of Australia's outstanding filmmakers, whose award-winning works have been seen in festivals from Sundance to Edinburgh.  She will screen and discuss new documentaries including a film from the groundbreaking national series, First Australians; her short on growing up Aboriginal and female in Central Australia; and her just-completed documentary on the Cannes Film Festival’s award-winning feature Samson and Delila, directed by Warwick Thornton (Kaytete).

Behind the scenes with Aboriginal teens Marissa Gibson and Rowan McNamara, the lead actors in Samson and Delilah, the feature that won the prestigious Camera d'Or prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

Discussion to follow with filmmakers Beck Cole and Warwick Thornton and Faye Ginsburg, director, NYU's Center for Media, Culture and History.

"Wallmapu"A visual presentation and discussion examines from within the contemporary concerns and traditions of the Mapuche of Chile. Selections from the award-winning documentary Wallmapu and other films will be followed by a discussion with Wallmapu filmmaker, Jeanette Paillán (Mapuche), and Luis Carcamo-Huechante (Mapuche), Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures, Harvard University, with Gabriela Rangel, Director of Visual Arts, Americas Society.

Presented in conjunction with Americas Society’s exhibition Moon Tears: Mapuche Art and Cosmology. For more information go to www.americas-society.org.
