A series launched each summer at the George Gustav Heye Center
in New York, At the Movies showcases Native actors, director,
producers, and writers, with a focus on fiction and feature films.
Beginning in July 2001, talented young filmmakers and wide-ranging
stories will light up the screen at the George Gustav Heye Center
in New York City. Randy Redroad (Cherokee) will show his latest
film, The Doe Boy (American winner of the 2000 Sundance/NHK
International Filmmakers Award). In August, In the Light
of Reverence, an important new documentary by Christopher
McLeod, explores the protection of sacred American Indian sites
in the United States. With him to discuss the film is Chris Peters
from the Seventh Generation Fund. October brings the romantic
comedy Christmas in the Clouds, with director Kate
Montgomery and actor Sheila Tousey (Menominee). The season ends
in December with Dead Man (winner of Best Screenplay
at the 1997 Independent Spirit Awards), presented by director
Jim Jarmusch and actor Gary Farmer (Cayuga). In addition, Farmer
will introduce the New York premiere of Emma Wilcockson's Two
Grey Hills, in which he stars with Sheila Tousey.
